In what ways can Mrs. Dalloway be connected to Freud and his “Interpretation of Dreams” (1899)? Consider the role of the id, ego, and superego. How might sexual relations be referencing Freud’s theories and principles? What is repression’s role in this text?
When thinking about Freud's "Interpretation of Dreams", I remember Peter Walsh's dream in the park. When he awakens and says "The death of the soul," it seems to allude to the notion that our default setting is destructive. Furthermore, he concludes that his dream was about Clarissa (although this is incorrect on his part). Peter's unfulfilled and repressed desires begin to manifest themselves as he is reminded once more of the past.

One of Freud's emphases was on sexual repression. Clarissa very much falls into this category. Her relationship with Richard is regrettably nonexistent. On the other hand, she recalls the sexual relationship she once had with Sally quite fondly. These emotions have been repressed as she conforms to society through marriage and orientation.

Freuds theory of Thanatos can be seen throughout the novel of Mrs. Dalloway. The theory of thanatos being that the death is what drives us as humans to the theory of death so that we can go to a more peaceful state. We see death a lot in the noel because of the death that was all around Woolf growing up. We see Woolf put herself into the characters, especially Mrs. Dalloway and Septimus speaking and thinking the truth and madness of the post world war around them that is full of death and depression. All of the following questions about this novel connect back to one main idea.
Seems that everyone has a sexual hangup now:.
